Music Lessons in Charleston and Mt Pleasant, SC.
An example of using blocks and one line for "Mi" or the "E" note to start children reading music. Make it easier with just one line, for Mi/E and then add a second line for 'So'/G.
In music class this week, we are exploring reading music but rather than use the often tiny printed staff paper, we are using long rope on the ground and wooden blocks to represent Do Re Mi Fa So (C D E F G).
The attached image of the glockenspiel shows an example of using blocks and one line for "Mi" or the "E" note to start children reading music. Make it easier with just one line, for Mi/E and then add a second line for 'So'/G. Children are starting to recognize the pitch locations in relation to the single or double lines. Technically, there are 5 staff lines, but let’s keep it simple for now.
The other image, a PDF, is the notation for “I’m a little Teapot”, which we’ve been learning in class. I encouraged children to practice it on glockenspiel, keyboard, or simply singing the note letters.
Let me know if you have any questions,
Mr. Gregory
