Moveable Do, starting Woodpecker in G, not C.

Here is a classic MMP Fall Festival Song, 'Woodpecker' that is very easy to play on the glockenspiel. Note:

We typically start songs in the key of “C”, where “Do” = C,

but this key is actually difficult to sing in for children (and many adults). Here, Woodpecker is in the key of ‘G’, it’s much easier to sing along in this key. It’s still easy to play but not as familiar as having ‘C’ as the starting point. To find the G note to start, children may try:

1) count up from C: C, D, E, F G (12345) to start on G, see printed notes above. or

2) “three black keys is F then G”.

Soon, I suggest to children that ‘Do’ can be redifined, or moved, for different songs, but I don’t want to confuse/challenge chluidren with this notion yet. There's a printer friendly version below.
